Command an Army New Units Update: 7 Units Ranked

The Command an Army new units update adds seven troops, a skill tree, and a free battle pass. Here's every new unit, its stats, and how to unlock them.

The Command an Army new units update just dropped, and it's the biggest content drop the Roblox strategy game has seen since launch. Seven new troops, a full skill tree system, a free battle pass, and a brand-new map have completely reshuffled what armies look like in ranked matches.

If you've been running the same Spartan-and-archer core for months, this update is your excuse to rebuild. Below you'll find every new unit, its stats, how to actually get them, and how the skill tree changes the way you should spend resources — including one costly mistake you'll want to avoid.

What's in the Command an Army New Units Update?

This patch (often called the "Update 3" patch in the community) bundles four major additions into one release:

FeatureWhat It Does
Seven new unitsNew evolutions and brand-new troops across multiple classes
Skill tree systemSpend Skill Crystals to unlock passive perks per unit
Free battle passEarn units, potions, and gems through quests
New mapFresh capture-point layout with elevated archer positions
AFK serverIdle rewards while you're offline
Auto-sell / auto-deleteFilter junk summons automatically

The headline, of course, is the new units. Community reports from early access players describe them as "very OP," with the Laestrygonian giant and the Mermidon cavalry unit drawing the most attention.

The Seven New Units at a Glance

Here's a breakdown of what players have found so far. Note that some names are community shorthand based on what appears in-game.

UnitTypeBase DamageNotes
LaestrygonianGiant / Melee120 per hit~900 HP, cleaves everything in range
MermidonCavalry1624 defense, 38 block, 5-star
Evolved PikemanAnti-cavalry19Long shaft upgrade, huge reach
Horse ArcherRanged / Cavalry16Mobile ranged pressure
Morning StarMelee13Mace-wielding evolution
New Archer EvoRanged10Upgraded scout line
Bastion-type unitDefense16High block, frontline anchor

Damage numbers vary by ascension level and skill tree investment, so treat these as baseline figures rather than final stats.

The Laestrygonian Is the Star of the Update

If you only chase one unit from this patch, make it the Laestrygonian. Player testing shows these giants hitting for 120 damage per swing with roughly 900 HP, and their attacks cleave through everything within range — not just the target in front of them.

Against Sentinel-type defenders (the standard defensive unit), the Laestrygonian was observed two-shotting entire groups. Cavalry evaporates on contact. Even fully upgraded defensive lines struggle to hold a capture point once two or three of these giants arrive.

A few practical observations from early testing:

  • They trample, not duel. Positioning them into a rush formation lets them walk through chokepoints rather than fight in them.
  • They heal at captured camps. Capture a point, park them there, and they'll recover between pushes.
  • They're slow to reposition. Once committed, a giant push is hard to pull back, so scout before you send them in.

The tradeoff is cost and speed. You won't be spamming these the way you spam militia.

Mermidon: The New Cavalry Meta?

The Mermidon is a 5-star cavalry unit with 16 base damage, 24 defense, and 38 block — and players are already calling it a Spartan killer. For context, Spartans sit around 20 defense, so the Mermidon's 24 defense is a meaningful step up for a mounted unit.

What makes it interesting is the block stat. Cavalry traditionally trades survivability for mobility, but a 38 block value means the Mermidon can actually hold a line briefly instead of melting to the first spear wall it touches.

Community reports note that the Mermidon shows up as a featured unit in the summon banner, which means your odds of pulling duplicates for ascension are better right now than they will be later. If you want it at Ascension 3, this is the window to pull.

The takeaway: Mermidon doesn't replace Spartans, but it gives aggressive players a mounted option that doesn't fold instantly.

Evolved Pikeman and Horse Archer: The Support Cast

Two evolutions round out the update, and both matter more than their modest damage numbers suggest.

Evolved Pikeman (Laestrygonian-Adjacent Anti-Cavalry)

The pikeman evolution gets a "long shaft" upgrade that dramatically extends its reach. In testing, these units hit targets well outside normal melee range and stun enemies on contact. Against cavalry-heavy compositions, a wall of evolved pikemen is close to a hard counter.

Their weaknesses are obvious: low HP (around 251 in one tested build) and vulnerability to ranged fire. Screen them with giants and they'll do work.

Horse Archer

A mounted archer adds mobile ranged pressure — something the game previously lacked. You can kite slower melee units and reposition without losing DPS uptime. Base damage sits around 16, which is respectable for a ranged unit.

The catch is that you can't seem to obtain the horse archer through normal evolution of the standard archer line. Community reports suggest it comes from the battle pass instead.

Skill Tree Explained: Don't Waste Your Skill Crystals

The skill tree is the most important — and most punishing — part of this update. Here's how it works and where players are getting burned.

Skill Crystals are the currency. You earn them from:

  • Daily quests
  • Ranked win rewards
  • Battle pass progression
  • Active codes (more on those below)

Each unit has its own skill tree with nodes like Reckless (flat damage), Duelist (parry chance), Clash, Guard, Last Stand (5% damage and attack), and Warlord's Wings (hits a nearby enemy). Some nodes cost 5 crystals; deeper nodes cost 7 or more.

The Critical Warning: Skill Trees Are Per-Unit, Not Universal

This is the mistake to avoid. Skill tree progress is bound to the specific unit card, not to the unit type or your account. If you unlock Reckless on one Mermidon and then swap to a different Mermidon, the progress does not carry over.

In practice, that means:

ActionResult
Spend 5 crystals on Unit ANode unlocked on Unit A only
Swap to Unit B of same typeNode locked again
Reset a treeYou do not get a refund of invested crystals
Ascend a unit laterTree progress stays on the original card

The smart play is to wait until you have your final ascension version of a unit before investing a single crystal. Spending early on a unit you'll replace is pure waste.

Based on player experience, the strongest general-purpose nodes are the attack speed and Last Stand combination, with the executioner-style node (+8% damage to enemies below 35% health) as a solid finisher option.

How to Unlock the New Units

There are three main paths to the new roster, and they're not equally efficient.

1. Battle Pass (Free Track)

The battle pass is free — community testing found no purchasable tiers beyond a Robux multiplier. Completing quests earns you potions, gems, and at least one unit already ascended to Ascension 2. Several of the new units appear to be battle-pass exclusive, including the horse archer line.

2. Summoning Banner

The Mermidon is currently featured, which boosts your pull rate. With roughly 99,000 gems in one tester's account, they pulled a Mermidon but noted duplicates are still needed for higher ascensions.

3. Codes

Redeem these in-game for free gems and Skill Crystals. Working codes as of early October 2026 include:

CodeReward
LAESTRYGONIAN700 Gems, 2 Skill Crystals
UPDATE3700 Gems, 2 Skill Crystals
MONGOLS1,000 Gems, 2 Skill Crystals
SKILLTREE5 Skill Crystals
OCTOBER31,000 Gems
SATURDAY1,000 Gems

To redeem: launch the game, finish the tutorial, click the Code button on the right side of your screen, paste the code, and hit Claim. For a full rundown of current and expired codes, Eurogamer's Command an Army codes page is updated regularly.

The SKILLTREE code alone is worth 5 crystals — enough for one mid-tier node. Grab it before it expires.

New Map and Quality-of-Life Changes

The new battlefield introduces elevated positions clearly designed for archers, plus additional capture points that double as healing stations. Early testing showed AI pathing issues — units occasionally getting stuck near gates — so expect a hotfix.

Two quality-of-life additions deserve a shout:

  • Auto-sell and auto-delete in the summon banner. Set filters to dump 1-star and 2-star pulls automatically. If you're sitting on 90,000+ gems, this saves enormous time.
  • AFK server. Earn rewards while offline, which softens the grind for casual players.

Combined, these changes push the game further toward free-to-play friendliness. One tester noted there's "really not much pay-to-win here," with the only Robux spend being a summon multiplier.

Should You Rebuild Your Army?

Yes — but carefully. The new units are strong enough that ignoring them puts you at a disadvantage in ranked. That said, the skill tree system punishes impulsive spending, and ascension duplicates take time to accumulate.

A sensible priority order based on community testing:

  1. Claim all active codes for free gems and crystals.
  2. Pull on the featured banner while Mermidon rates are boosted.
  3. Finish the battle pass to grab the exclusive units.
  4. Do not spend Skill Crystals until you have your final ascension card.
  5. Test in casual matches before committing to a new composition.

The Laestrygonian and Mermidon are the two units most likely to define the next meta. Everything else is a support piece — useful, but not worth breaking your crystal bank over.
